Azerbaijan aims to apply AI-based solutions

Azerbaijan aims to introduce AI-based solutions that use rich operational data generated by existing locomotives, road sensors and signalling systems.

Report informs that Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samir Mammadov said this at an event titled "Artificial Intelligence for Cities – Urban Planning and Building Smart, Sustainable Communities," held as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

"By adding a modern AI layer to this equipment data, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC will be able to create predictive maintenance, smarter freight planning and improved network capacity. Value will be derived from already existing infrastructure on a sovereign basis.

"For the Baku Metro, which already generates significant operational and sensor data through rolling stock, station systems and monitoring infrastructure, the vision is to apply AI-based analytics to the existing data flow in order to better understand crowd dynamics, identify maintenance needs in advance and improve safety at station level.

"The vision of the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency is to use the digital twin capability already being created today as an analytical basis for assessing and prioritizing urban mobility initiatives. By simulating interventions before they are implemented on the streets, the agency can test, measure and improve urban traffic flow in a virtual environment. The most promising scenarios can then translate into measurable reductions in congestion, fuel consumption and emissions," the deputy minister said.
