Hajiyev: China to help Azerbaijan to produce electric vehicles

Azerbaijan’s focus on green growth and digitalization will boost Azerbaijani-Chinese joint efforts, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said in an interview with the Chinese CGTN TV, Report informs.

“Chinese companies are investing in the non-oil sector of the Azerbaijani economy, which we accept with gratitude, as it contributes to the diversification of the economy. This are, in particular, the production of construction materials and petrochemical products, where Chinese companies are well represented,” Hajiyev noted.

An example of such cooperation in the field of green energy can be the joint work of ACWA Power with Chinese partners, Hajiyev emphasized, noting that Chinese products and builders are involved in the implementation of solar and wind power projects in Azerbaijan.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate China on its achievements in the green transition. While others are only discussing, China is demonstrating practical results in this at the national and global levels, and also shares its achievements with others, particularly with us. We have two examples of such important projects that are based on Chinese technologies," he noted.

According to Hajiyev, similar projects were discussed during his latest visit to China. For example, the creation of production facilities for the renewable energy sector, and the establishment of a production line for electric vehicles in Azerbaijan with the help of Chinese partners.

“Today you can see Chinese electric cars on the streets in Baku. In general, this segment of the automobile industry is well developed in China,” the presidential aide emphasized.
