'We are ending the year with success and faith in the future,' sports minister says

Azerbaijani athletes won 837 medals in the year only at official, reputable international competitions, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov said in a statement posted on the official website of the organization.

"It is gratifying that we are ending the year with success and faith in the future," he said, as quoted by Report.

"December is a reporting month, so it is natural that we are focused on the sports results of the year. Despite the small number of international competitions, our athletes won 30 medals in December. In general, Azerbaijani athletes won 837 medals in the year only at official, reputable international competitions," said the minister.

According to Gayibov, during the year successes were achieved both in the youth and sports fields: “That became possible owing to the instructions and constant support of President Ilham Aliyev. As part of the Year of Shusha, the ancient capital of culture has hosted a number of international and local events," the minister said.
