Turkish athlete who dedicated her victory in Yerevan to Azerbaijan: Armenians showed their essence

By setting fire to the flag of Azerbaijan, the Armenians showed their essence, Turkish athlete Cansu Bektas, winner of the gold medal at the European Weightlifting Championships in Yerevan, told Report.

She was commenting on the act of vandalism against the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony of the tournament.

The weightlifter, who became the European champion in the weight category up to 49 kg, said that it was her personal decision to dedicate her victory to Azerbaijan.

"The day before the competition, I promised my friend from the Azerbaijani national team Nazila Ismayilova and her coach that I would play the anthem of my country. I kept my word," she added.

She expressed her love for the Azerbaijani people, noting that if Azerbaijani athletes had competed at the tournament, they would have won medals.
