Report informs that the Azerbaijani weightlifter Tarmenkhan Babayev, who grabbed a silver medal at the 3rd Junior Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, said.
The 16-year-old athlete in the 85 kg weight category said that he made happy the national team, as well as whole Azerbaijan with this result. Babayev expressed confidence for further good results: "My main goal is to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan. I thank my coaches and everyone who helped me on this way".
Javad Aghayev (63 kg), who claimed a bronze medal in Buenos Aires, expressed regret over the defeat in the semifinals.
Another bronze medalist of the race, Nurlan Safarov (60 kg) said that the reason of the failure to reach the Olympic champion was due to the mistakes made during the bouts.
Gymnast Yelizaveta Luzan, who finished the Olympics with a gold medal in the mixed team competitions of the International Olympic Committee, said that she was trying to present and benefit the national team worthily: "I did not make any serious mistakes. I am proud that I brought a gold medal to Azerbaijan."
Mariana Vasileva, the coach of the young athlete drew attention to the fact that the Azerbaijani gymnast won medals in the Olympic Games for the first time: "This is the first step for our juniors, a very important achievement to our federation. I am grateful to President of the Azerbaijani Gymnastics Federation Mehriban Aliyeva. She always supports us."
