Baku. 24 January. REPORT.AZ/ The first international judo competition of the year - Grand Prix starts today in Israel's capital Tel-Aviv.
Report informs that 12 men and 6 women tatami masters will represent Azerbaijan in the tournament.
On the first day of the competition, nine of them will compete from the 1/16 finals. Rashad Yelkiyev and Rovshan Aliyev will participate in the men's 60 kg weight class. They will encounter Israeli Alon Aharon and Slovenian Matjaž Trbovc in their first bouts respectively. In the 66 kg divisions Orkhan Safarov is to face Mohammed Kossekov from Turkmenistan and Ibrahim Aliyev will face US athlete Cole Chandler.

Leyla Aliyeva's first opponent in the weight category of 48 kg is Alexandra Pop of Romania. Aisha Gurbanli of the same weight category will encounter Sinte Garcia Mesa from Spain. Gultaj Mammadaliyeva will face Katri Kakko from Finland, while Buyankhishig Purevsuren will vie against Fabienne Kohler of Switzerland.
Ichinkhorloo Munkhtsedev (57 kg) will face Shaked Amihay from Israel.
Notably, Rustam Orujov, Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg both) and Murad Fatiyev (81 kg) will compete on January 25, Mammadali Mehdiyev, Tural Safguliyev (both 90 kg), Elmar Gasimov (100 kg), Ushangi Kokauri, Shahin Gahramanov (both +100 kg) and Irina Kinderzka (+78 kg) will compete tomorrow.
379 athletes from 53 countries take part in Grand Prix. The prize fund of the tournament is $ 100,000.
