Azerbaijani judoka captures gold at European Junior Cup

The European Junior Cup judo tournament has kicked off in Porec, Croatia, with Azerbaijan celebrating an early success, Report informs.

Aysun Mammadova dominated the competition on the opening day to claim the gold medal for Azerbaijan.

Competing in the 52 kg weight division, Mammadova displayed exceptional skill throughout the tournament, systematically eliminating her opponents. She began her gold medal campaign by defeating competitors from Switzerland in the round of 32, followed by victories over representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 16, Canada in the quarterfinals, and Sweden in the semifinals.

In the championship match, Mammadova faced Moldova's Alexandra Chironu, whom she overcame to secure Azerbaijan's first medal of the competition.

Azerbaijan has sent a strong delegation to the tournament, with 14 female judokas competing across five weight categories. The prestigious European Cup has attracted 813 athletes representing 37 countries.
