Azerbaijani chess  referee's legacy recognized in Guinness World Records

Faig Hasanov, Vice President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, has officially been included in the Guinness World Records for his remarkable career. At a special event marking his 85th birthday, it was revealed that Hasanov's name is now listed as the longest-serving chess referee in history.

According to Report, during the ceremony, attended by figures such as Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, FIDE Vice President Mahir Mammadov, and several chess legends including five-time world champion Nona Gaprindashvili and grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Guinness World Records representative Sheyda Subashi confirmed the honor.

Hasanov's extraordinary 60-year and 149-day career officiating at chess tournaments has earned him this prestigious recognition. The official Guinness certificate was presented to him during the event, cementing his place in the world's most renowned record book.

Additionally, the event celebrated Shahriyar Mammadyarov, a three-time European champion and World Rapid Chess Champion, who recently turned 40.
