State Security Service arrests a person accused of high treason - PHOTO

Baku. 11 February. REPORT.AZ/ A citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, resident of Mingachevir, Alakbarov Anar Vagif oghlu was detained as a suspect in high treason during the ongoing investigation by the State Security Service, Report informs citing the Public Relations Department of State Security Service.

It was determined that Anar Alakbarov was involved in secret cooperation with the foreign intelligence officials in exchange for material interests in territory of foreign countries in March, 2016. These people instructed Alakbarov to collect information about the Azerbaijani citizens who have trade relations abroad and to involve them in cooperation with foreign service agencies on the basis of various business relations, as well as to inform them about the representatives of Azerbaijani special services and embassies of specific countries operating in Azerbaijan and military units of the Defense Ministry.

During the investigation, it was determined that Anar Alakbarov collected information that goes contrary to the interests of state security of the Republic of Azerbaijan and communicated this information to the foreign intelligence services using mobile internet software designed to ensure confidentiality. Other facts were collected on the issue, he acknowledged his criminal offences and informed on the details of the criminal case.

Alakbarov was charged  under article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code and sentenced based on the decision of the court.

Investigative and operational measures are currently under way.
