On May 11, at around 04:00 (GMT+4), suspicious movement of unknown persons was observed in the service area of the Horadiz border detachment of the Azerbaijani State Border Service's (SBS) Border Troops Command, in the direction of the Khudafarin bridge, the SBS told Report.
Four people who entered the Khudafarin bridge from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran crawled to the part of the bridge in Azerbaijan's territory and began excavation works at the column part of the bridge.
The border patrol carrying out the task of protecting the state border was immediately deployed to the scene, and at the same time, the border representatives of the counterpart were urgently informed about the incident.
Understanding the border patrol approaching in that direction, one of the border violators threw himself into the Araz River, while the other three who ran back were detained in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
An inspection of the scene was conducted with the participation of border representatives, and digging tools used in the excavated part of the bridge were discovered and seized.
According to information provided by the counterpart, the detained individuals were identified as citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Search operations for the person who fell into the Araz River are being conducted with the participation of both sides.
