In September 2024, bone remains of approximately 15 individuals who went missing during the First Karabakh War were discovered in the Sirkhavand village of the Aghdara district, Azerbaijan, said Ali Naghiyev, Head of the State Security Service of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, Report informs.

The discovery was made as a result of work carried out using coordinates known to the State Commission and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Naghiyev made the remarks during his speech at the international conference on missing persons.

The chairman stated that exhumation work continues in the area. "Based on initial observations and analysis, there is a high probability of discovering several mass graves in that territory," he added.
