On May 19, the 10th Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) was held in Baku, jointly organized by the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office and the UN, Report informs.
Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, who participated in the opening ceremony of the event, touched upon the important achievements made in the fight against corruption in his country under the leadership of the Head of State, Ilham Aliyev.
The prosecutor general presented in detail the Asan Service model, which includes innovative approaches in providing public services to citizens by minimizing risks in this area, the Anti-Corruption Commission and the General Directorate for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General, and also explained other institutional, legal and practical approaches of Azerbaijan to foreign representatives.
Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev expressed his gratitude to the representatives of all Member States for the decision to hold this meeting in Baku and for electing the Republic of Azerbaijan as a member of the Steering Committee made at the Plenary Meeting of the GlobE Network held in Beijing, the People's Republic of China, last year.
Touching upon the activities of the GlobE Network, Kamran Aliyev noted that this international organization, which currently coordinates the activities of 235 law enforcement agencies from 126 countries, provides flexible, functional and practical solutions in the prevention and investigation of corruption crimes, and emphasized the support of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the development of this global institution.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Brigitte Strobel-Shaw, Chief of the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Nasser Abaalkhail, Chairman of the GlobE Network Steering Committee, and Boni de Moraes Soares, Vice-Chairman, thanked for the professional organization of the event and spoke about the work carried out by the GlobE Network during the past period, as well as the issues discussed at the current meeting of the Steering Committee. The meeting discussed the admission of new members, the expansion of communication services and other relevant issues.
Then, in accordance with the agenda of the event, an exchange of views was held on issues such as improving the mechanism for selecting the Steering Committee, the model of cross-border information exchange in investigating corruption crimes, and the positive formation of local experiences of the GlobE Network Member States. The Steering Committee members improved the content of the relevant draft documents and made decisions to determine the directions of future activities.
Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev also held a bilateral meeting with Mazin Bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (NAZAHA).
The meeting discussed the strong historical political relations between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia and the development of cooperation in the field of law enforcement. Kamran Aliyev emphasized the importance of the exchange of experience and mutual relations in the fight against corruption.
Mazin Bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, on the other hand, noted that Saudi Arabia attaches importance to the consistent measures taken in the fight against corruption and the strengthening of legal mechanisms. Al-Kahmous expressed his openness to international cooperation, especially within the framework of the GlobE Network, and expressed his interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in this direction.
After the meeting, the visitors got acquainted with the corner dedicated to the life and work of the great leader Heydar Aliyev in the History Museum of the Prosecutor General's Office and viewed exhibits reflecting the development path of the Azerbaijani Prosecutor's Office.
The meeting was also attended by Saudi Ambassador to Baku Essam bin Saleh Al-Jutaili.
