Azerbaijan reports decline in HIV cases among drug users

Azerbaijan has seen a decline in the number of people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) among drug users, according to Report, which cites the State Commission on the Fight Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
The information, released by the commission's permanent Working Group, reveals that 799 people contracted HIV in the first seven months of this year. Among them, 786 are Azerbaijani citizens, while three are foreigners. Some 43 of the Azerbaijani citizens (5.4%) were injecting drug users.
