A declaration defining the main priorities of the 194 member states of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be adopted as part of the World Telecommunication Development Conference to be held in Baku in November, ITU Regional Director Natalia Mochu told Report on the sidelines of the Online Azerbaijan project event.
"This conference is one of the most important conferences for ITU, as it is dedicated to development issues. Within the framework of the event, we will prepare a high-level document - a declaration, which will reflect the priorities of the member states. Resolutions defining the strategic directions of ITU's work will also be discussed and adopted. Regional priorities will also be approved at the conference. There will be about five priorities for the CIS countries, and ITU will focus on their implementation over the next four years," Mochu said.
According to her, in addition to the main program, ITU is also planning to hold a youth forum to give young people the opportunity to express their views on digital future issues.
"Young people are the most active audience in terms of technology and it is important to take their views into account. In addition, since the gender gap in access to technologies remains a major problem, we are considering the possibility of holding additional events, such as a women's networking meeting. Other thematic discussions may also be organized within the framework of the conference, but all of them will be dedicated to digital development issues at the global and regional levels," the ITU official told Report.
