Google to pay AFP for its online content

Google has signed a five-year agreement with Agence France-Presse (AFP), under which it will pay AFP for its online content.

Report informs, citing Kommersant, that the financial terms of the deal are not disclosed. Under the same agreement, Google and AFP will launch joint projects.

The law under which Google has to strike deals with media on payment of online content was approved in France in April last year. This year, the French antimonopoly regulator fined Google 500 million euros for breaking the rule.

Google earlier this year agreed to pay $76 million (67 million euros) over three years to a group of 121 French news publishers, not including AFP, Reuters previously reported. But the deal has been on hold, pending the outcome of an antitrust proceeding in which France's competition regulator has accused Google of failing to negotiate in good faith.
