Azercosmos: Satellite images play important role in studying effects of methane gas

Satellite images play an important role in studying the effects of methane gas in Azerbaijan, Saleh Nabiyev, a leading specialist at the Space Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (Azercosmos), said in his speech on the 5th day of Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs

According to Nabiyev, various satellite images from commercial and open sources are used for this purpose: "It is necessary to find and analyze these effects. Our artificial intelligence team is working on various AI modeling and conducting special analyses. This shows that Earth observation is very important in the fight against climate change."

"Climate change is an important challenge of our time. Sea levels are changing. We can see this in the example of the Caspian Sea. All of these are caused by the effects of greenhouse gases. We prepare forecasts and monitoring of these events. It is important for us to determine what we may face in the future. Artificial intelligence has already been involved in this process. AI models help identify specific trends. We can make predictions about the future using historical satellite images. As the agency, we are implementing a number of projects related to climate change. This includes monitoring of glaciers, the Caspian Sea, and river basins," he noted.
