WHO sees sharp increase in COVID cases globally

Between July 24 and August 20, 2023, there were about 1.5 million new cases of COVID-19 worldwide, up 63% from the previous 28 days, Report informs referring to the weekly epidemiological report of the World Health Organization (WHO).
In the last 28-day period (July 24 to August 20, 2023), the six WHO regions recorded nearly 1.5 million new COVID-19 cases and more than 2,000 deaths, up 63% and down 48%, respectively, compared with the previous 28 days, the document says.
WHO estimates that currently reported cases do not accurately reflect infection rates due to declining testing and reporting around the world.
