Ailments like cancer and diabetes have become more deadly than infectious diseases, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Report informs.
In the report published by the World Health Organization, death cases from diseases such as cancer and diabetes were examined, along with non-communicable heart and lung diseases.
According to the report, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases kill 41 million people annually.
In addition, in 2019, 17 million people under the age of 70 died prematurely due to non-communicable diseases. And 86% of deaths occurred in poor or middle-income countries.
The loss of life from non-infectious diseases is higher than from infectious diseases.
The true extent of the threats posed by non-communicable diseases is once again understood thanks to this report, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Noting that there are inexpensive methods to prevent infectious diseases that can be applied worldwide, Gebreyesus warned that if measures are not taken, such illnesses can become the greatest threat of the century.
