WHO and USAID launch another project on Azerbaijan’s healthcare system

The World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Azerbaijan and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have launched a new project aimed at improving emergency medical care and infection prevention and control systems in the country.

The $ 3.35 million USAID-funded project will support the Ministry of Health, the State Agency for Compulsory Health Insurance, the Management Union of Medical Territorial Units (TABIB), and the Azerbaijan Medical University through the WHO.

The project "Strengthening Emergency Medical Aid and Infection Prevention and Control Systems in Azerbaijan" will support management structures, national strategies, standards, and procedures for both systems, and relevant educational programs will be established at Azerbaijan Medical University, medical colleges, and other educational institutions.

Moreover, local training and certification programs will also improve the knowledge of the existing and potential workforce in both areas, establish a training and simulation center in Sumgayit, and establish a national infection prevention and control committee, including a national reference laboratory that will combine best practices in nosocomial infections and antimicrobial resistance.
