"A mutated strain of COVID-19 has been detected in 110 countries worldwide. Azerbaijan also confirmed the British strain in some cases," Akif Gurbanov, chairman of the Medical Scientific Committee under the Medical Territorial Units Management Association (TABIB), told Report.
He noted that the key point about the new strain is that it is more contagious: "As for other features of the virus-no notable differences related to the lethality or pathogens were found. It is the same COVID-19, just modified."
The TABIB representative noted that the vaccine used in the country would help with great effectiveness in the treatment of diseases caused by strains: "The symptoms of the disease caused by the new strain do not differ from the previous ones. Everyone should know that the disease's mortality caused by the virus, the severity of the disease does not differ from the previous strains. Protection measures must be seriously observed. Two months ago, vaccination started in the country. More than half a million people were vaccinated, they developed an immunity. Vaccination will continue in the future. If we can create immunity in a certain part of the population soon, the pandemic will not be as dangerous for us as before."
Gurbanov noted that the treatment of diseases caused by the new strain remains the same: "There are no changes, the protection measures are also similar. I recommend that everyone gets vaccinated because there is no other way to be protected from the coronavirus."
