"The coronavirus mutation found in South Africa is not dangerous," Alexander Chepurnov stated, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

According to him, it only contributed to the accelerated spread of the infection.

"This is an unpleasant thing, but this mutation does not threaten vaccines," the doctor said in a comment Ura.ru.

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences Sergey Netesov agreed with him. The scientist believes that the new mutation is not worth paying attention to yet, since the changes do not significantly impact the virus overcoming vaccine immunity.

Earlier, African geneticists reported the discovery of a new coronavirus mutation for the country. The results of their research showed that the variety named 501. V2 spreads faster than other modifications and can affect the disease's severity among young people without concomitant diseases.
