There is no information about the spread of the JN1 strain of COVID-19 in Azerbaijan, Tayyar Eyvazov, specialist-expert of the Ministry of Health, infectious disease specialist, told Report.
Regarding the new strain, the infectious disease specialist said that the new JN1 strain is a subspecies of Omicron: "It differs from its predecessor, the Pirola strain, only in its infectiousness rate. The World Health Organization still rates this subtype as a variant of interest. It is not confirmed that it will cause more serious diseases. On the contrary, despite the increase in the number of infection cases in some countries recently, there has been a decrease in the death rate. There is no information about the spread of this subvariant of the virus in Azerbaijan."
