Number of diseases caused by global warming increasing, Azerbaijan's health minister says

The number of diseases caused by global warming is increasing, the Head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev said, Report informs.

He made the remark during his speech at the strategic round table entitled "Climate change and health: a global vision for joint action " within the framework of the 77th session of the World Health Assembly.

According to him, many human diseases are linked to heat waves, the transmission of infectious diseases, and climate change.

The minister noted that today, humanity is experiencing the direct and indirect effects of climate change: "In recent decades, the frequency and severity of extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and storms have increased. These natural phenomena directly affect air quality, water pollution, and land use possibilities.

Musayev expressed regret that the awareness of health workers about the impact of climate change on health is not at a satisfactory level:

“It is proposed to include the subject on Climate change and health in the educational programs. In addition, the WHO Academy can play a key role in creating an online platform to provide continuing education on climate change and health."
