"The virus that has spread among children over recent days is the A or B strain of the common influenza virus," paediatrician Vafa Huseynova told Report.
In her opinion, although some call it of an unknown origin and dangerous virus, strains A or B of influenza have been known to medical science for many years, and are spread among children every autumn and winter.
The doctor noted that this is not a coronavirus, but a known flu virus: “I would advise parents to see a doctor immediately if children become infected. At the first sneeze, cough, watery eyes and any discomfort, they should consult a doctor. Because sometimes parents waste time treating their children with traditional remedies. This means prolonging the treatment period at a delayed stage. If a doctor is consulted at an early stage, then a test is taken on time, and the necessary examination and treatment is carried out.”
Vafa Huseynova said that there is no case of virus infection in the response of the test at a late stage. “Because it is impossible to get a positive response after the virus leaves the upper respiratory tract and goes down. Therefore, it is recommended to consult a doctor at an early stage.”
The paediatrician also came against keeping children in an extremely closed environment: “During the pandemic, children were left indoors for a long time. Later, the opening of public facilities, schools and kindergartens led to an increase in the number of virus cases. At present, children's immunity is very weak. As they spent less time outdoors and took fewer vitamins, parents need to be more careful in the autumn and winter.”
