"In Azerbaijan, the most common non-infectious disease among people is hypertension (high blood pressure). It finallly results in a brain attack or cardiovascular disease," head of the Azerbaijan representative office of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hande Harmanci said.
According to her, it is followed by diabetes, cancer, and chronic respiratory disease: "The leading cause of death in Azerbaijan among people over 30 is non-communicable diseases. Non-communicable diseases are usually long-term diseases consisting of a combination of genetic, physiological factors, environmental factors and behavior. Tobacco use, physical immobility, air pollution, the use of harmful alcoholic beverages, an unhealthy diet are leading to an increase in the number of people suffering from non-communicable diseases.
