Italy detects new variant of coronavirus

A new variant of the coronavirus -Xf, combining the omicron and the delta strains, has been found in an Italian laboratory.
Report informs, citing TASS, that, according to the La Repubblica newspaper, this variant was detected in a local man, who became infected about two months ago.
The paper says that the patient at the age of 50 suffered from many pathologies and died, however, according to the head of the laboratory, microbiologist Vittorio Sambri, the cause of the death was not a new variant of the coronavirus.
So, this variant has not yet been registered in Italy, although it has already been seen in the UK.
