Infectious disease doctor: Vaccination - most effective way to prevent measles

Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles and its spread, said Sabina Jafarova, an infectious disease specialist at the Research Institute of Pediatrics named after Farajova of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Healthcare, Report informs.

She noted that there is no special treatment against measles, which spreads primarily among children, but it is possible to alleviate the course of the disease and prevent possible complications by strengthening the child’s immunity.

“Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent measles. Since 2014, vaccines have been imported to Azerbaijan by the Ministry of Health through UNICEF and all of them, regardless of the country of origin, meet the safety and effectiveness standards of the World Health Organization,” Jafarova noted.

The infectious disease specialist called on parents to vaccinate their children with two doses of the vaccine at the age of one and six years, and in case of violation of the revaccination schedule, it is necessary to vaccinate again at the age of 10 years: “Vaccination significantly reduces the risk of severe disease in children. The first dose of measles vaccine provides protection of approximately by 95%.”
