Germany is bracing for a new wave of coronavirus in autumn, with Bundestag's experts' council developing three scenario of pandemic development, country's healthcare minister Karl Lauterbach said in an interview with Deutschlandfunk.
Report informs, citing German media, that the minister said the most likely today is the variant at which it will be possible to avoid a serious outbreak of the disease and respective restrictions. All the same, he noted, that it is necessary to be prepared for new strains of coronavirus which may be more contagious and dangerous.
The minister expects Germany to start applying the vaccine able to fight the omicron strain by September. The respective drugs have already been presented by Moderna and BioNTech.
Germany has reported an increase in coronavirus morbidity over the past days. As of the early June 9, the seven-day ratio made 276.9 cases in 100,000 residents, according to Robert Koch Institute. Germany confirmed 77,636 new coronavirus cases and 90 deaths over the past day.
