Coronavirus pandemic kills 16 journalists in Azerbaijan

Since the outset of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, 16 journalists have succumbed to the deadly pathogen in Azerbaijan, Report informs, citing the annual report of the Trade Union of Journalists on the social situation of Azerbaijani journalists in 2021 and events related to the media space.
"The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic also manifested themselves in 2021. As monitoring results reveal, the number of journalists infected with coronavirus totaled 288 people in 2021 (117 in 2020). Thus, the total number of journalists infected in 2020 and 2021 reached 405 people. Eight journalists died last year after contracting COVID-19. The total number of journalists killed by coronavirus in 2020 and 2021 reached 16," the report says.
The Association for the Management of Medical Territorial Units (TABIB) launched an extraordinary vaccination campaign for journalists following an appeal from the Press Council. As part of the campaign, over 800 journalists were vaccinated in an unscheduled manner.
