UN expert: Ongoing suffering of colonial policy victims in Africa must end

It is necessary to end the ongoing suffering of the victims of imperialist and colonial policies in Africa, who continue to experience the consequences of colonial oppression to this day, Pastor Martinez, a Colombian member of the UN Permanent Forum on African Peoples, said at an international scientific conference themed "Imperial Structure: Ideologies and Realities of Colonialism" held in Baku, Report informs.

According to Martinez, the risks in the world are increasing every day, and no one is immune to racism and social inequality.

"People of African descent have experienced colonialism, the transatlantic slave trade, and imperialism. Their consequences are still felt today. Today, we face new challenges such as the migration crisis, racism, xenophobia, climate change, the injustice of the energy transition, and the negative and unethical use of artificial intelligence," he noted.

According to Martinez, the conference in Baku was an important platform to rethink historical reality, hear the voices of previously ignored groups, and acknowledge their contributions to the formation of global heritage in regions such as North and South America.
