"These 'black' pages of our history have been a lesson for all nations and generations. The lesson of what not to do. At that time, both Azerbaijan and Ukraine were under the harmful influence of more powerful and ultra-totalitarian countries. Such an effect could not go unnoticed. Shortly after the Holocaust, the same genocide took place in the Azerbaijani city of Khojaly," Yuriy Kamelchuk of the ruling Servant of the People Party of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine said while drawing parallels between the Holocaust and the Khojaly genocide.
"The murder of civilians was one of the most brutal massacres during the Karabakh war. On February 25, 1992, heavy artillery fire on the city of Khojaly began at 23:00, and in just five hours, 500 Azerbaijani civilians were killed. When we talk about what we can do to prevent the recurrence of such massacres, including the Holocaust, I am convinced of only one thing. Our main task is to eliminate the causes of wars and conflicts. This task is so complicated that even the League of Nations could not cope with it at one time. The reason is the selfishness and aggression of the individual states that started the war. That is why in today's hybrid conflict, we must look for compromises, not differences. Friendship and diplomatic relations, investments and a similar history - can be a step towards finding a stable world. Azerbaijan and Ukraine have unequivocally achieved this," Kamelchuk said.
