Ukrainian MP: ‘As long as Armenia doesn't follow the agreement, Azerbaijan has every right to act as it sees fit'

"According to the agreement, Armenia had to withdraw all its troops from the territory of Azerbaijan. If the agreement was not followed, Azerbaijan had the full right to act as it knew," Yury Kamelchuk, member of the ruling Servant of the People Party of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, told Report.

He put forward his own version about the real behind-the-scenes criticism of Azerbaijan by one of the representatives of Ukraine recently:

"They are not fully aware of the issue, the real relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine, the role the countries play for each other. They do not fully understand the nature of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and war and to what extent Russia plays a role in this issue. Perhaps they are based on their colleagues' assumptions, or someone wants to manipulate them. But still, all those remarks affect the general perception and certainly do not help to strengthen friendly relations between Ukraine and Azerbaijan."

Kamelchuk emphasized the necessity of thanking all Ukrainian Azerbaijanis who voluntarily served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine:

"Azerbaijanis and business representatives in Ukraine contribute to rehabilitating Ukrainian fighters, their treatment, prosthetics, etc. I know that there is a huge flow of humanitarian aid regularly. And it is not only businessmen inside Ukraine, but they also invite their friends in Europe and other parts of the world to that, and they all have a share in this flow of aid."

The deputy said that they will carefully follow what happens in the future:

"Because we are watching a situation where the US representatives are going to Yerevan. I understand that their goal is to get Armenia out of Russian control. But I think it is not necessary to spoil relations with Azerbaijan. If they want to help solve this conflict, they should try to implement the agreements reached between the countries. After all, according to the agreement, Armenia had to withdraw all its troops from the territory of Azerbaijan. If the agreement was not followed, Azerbaijan had the full right to act as it knew. I say again that the United States is acting against the interests of Russia in this matter. Moreover, I think they are trying to balance the sphere of influence of the Turkish-Azerbaijani duo in the region."

He emphasized that several representatives of Ukrainian pop culture and some politicians are only looking at the tip of the iceberg:

"Unfortunately, without having detailed information, they express their opinion based on some superficial interests. I hope they will change their minds after learning the true state of our historical relations. If we take a global approach and talk about long-term history, I would very much like the war to end in Ukraine and Azerbaijan. This is unambiguous. The methods and tools used at this time depend on the parties themselves. The world says that Ukraine has the right to restore its territorial integrity and free its territories from occupation in the form it deems acceptable. Therefore, Azerbaijan has the same rights."
