UK political scientist: Azerbaijani authorities have been magnanimous in dropping case against Armenian football players

The Azerbaijani authorities have been extremely magnanimous in dropping the case against the young Armenian football players who insulted the state flag of the country, UK political scientist and journalist Neil Watson told Report.

“The actions of these young Armenian footballers were deeply offensive to all Azerbaijanis and all those who respect the Azerbaijani flag, and in flagrant breach of Azerbaijani law,” he said.

“Furthermore, a similar action in the UK would be regarded as an illegal action promoting hatred. It demonstrates the humanity of the Azerbaijani authorities.”

On August 28, Armenian football players were arrested at the Lachin border checkpoint in connection with committing offensive actions against the State Flag of Azerbaijan. However, later applying the principle of humanism, Azerbaijan stopped this criminal prosecution.

Thus, they were placed under administrative arrest for a period of 10 days. After the execution of the court decision, the deportation of these persons from Azerbaijan will be ensured.
