Turkish Foreign Ministry responds to French President

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey issued a statement regarding French President Emmanuel Macron's speech targeting Turkiye.

Report informs that the spokesperson of the ministry, Tanju Bilgic, stated that the French President's speech targeting Turkey, along with some countries during his visit to Algeria is extremely regrettable: "It is unacceptable that French President Macron, who has difficulty in facing the colonial past in Africa, especially in Algeria, tries to get rid of the colonial past by accusing other countries, including our country. Turkiye, which promotes friendship rather than enmity and is among the strategic partners of the African Union, is developing its relations with both Algeria and other countries of the African continent day by day, and these relations are based on mutual trust. If France feels that there are reactions against it on the African continent, it should look for the source of these reactions in its own colonial past and its efforts to perpetuate it in various ways and try to correct it. Claiming that these reactions are caused by the activities of third countries instead of confronting and solving the problems related to their own past is not only a denial of a sociological phenomenon and history but also a reflection of the distorted mentality of some politicians. We hope France will reach maturity as soon as possible to face its colonial past without blaming other countries, including our country."
