The next session of the tripartite working group on unblocking communications in the South Caucasus region co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia took place in Moscow on June 2.
In an interview with Report, Azerbaijan's Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev spoke about the process of negotiations.
- Could you please comment on the talks held as part of the meeting of the tripartite working group on restoration of the transport communication between the western districts of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic?
- The talks are held on the basis of clause 9 of the joint Statement dated November 9/10, 2020, for the soonest implementation of its provisions. The tasks are ultimately clear. The restoration and construction of new transport communications between the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the western districts of Azerbaijan are envisaged. Passenger, cargo and vehicle transportation will be ensured.
- Will Russia control the transport communication between the western districts of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic?
- Under the tripartite agreement dated November 9/10, 2020, the control will be carried out by the border services of the Russian FSB to ensure the unhindered movement of citizens, vehicles and cargoes.
- At what stage are the talks?
- Discussions are currently held to agree on technical details.
