SCO studying issue of Azerbaijan’s obtaining observer status

The member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) are actively studying the issue of Azerbaijan’s obtaining observer status, Secretary-General of the organization Zhang Ming said, Report informs referring to TASS.
“As for the issue of obtaining observer status by Azerbaijan and Armenia, the SCO member states are actively studying it,” he said.
“In this regard, I am personally optimistic, although at the moment I cannot name the exact time,” he added.
The declaration on the establishment of the SCO was signed in Shanghai in June 2001 by Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, while Azerbaijan has the status of a dialogue partner.
