Russian MFA: Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict was main obstacle to establishment of trade and economic relations in South Caucasus

The North-South International Transport Corridor will become one of the main links in the implementation of the Russian President's initiative on the formation of a large Eurasian space, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing, Report informs.

“Supposedly, this route will connect ports in the Baltic and Arctic with ports on the shores of the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean and will become one of the main links in the implementation of the Russian President’s initiative to create a large Eurasian space,” she said.

Zakharova emphasized that Russia pays great attention to the establishment of transport and logistics relations with neighboring countries, including the South Caucasian states: “We have established strong commercial and economic relations with our neighbors. The Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict was the main obstacle to this issue in the South Caucasus.”
