Russia, Azerbaijan work closely to return stranded citizens home: Ambassador
Report

"Azerbaijan and Russia have a deep understanding on the issue of returning their citizens to their homeland," Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Bocharnikov told Report.

He noted that the Embassy cooperates with the Task Force under the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan and coordinates its steps in this matter. The presidents of both countries also took the situation under control.

Regarding the return of Azerbaijani citizens from Russia, the Ambassador noted that the procedure is still the same.

"Azerbaijani citizens must register on a special portal. Quite a significant number of Azerbaijani citizens are on the border with Dagestan. 120-130 people regularly cross the land border. Just on June 9, 131, Azerbaijani citizens crossed the border."

The Ambassador noted that there are also quite a large number of Russian citizens in Azerbaijan who want to return to their homeland.

"There are mainly people who have relatives here. Some have a business and other reasons. Now, according to our list, there are more than 4 thousand requests for return. We carry out this process through the Dagestan section of our border. We have to do this regularly, considering the limited capabilities of our colleagues from Dagestan. In total, 1,172 Russian citizens were recently transported to the Russian territory with the Embassy's participation, mainly by land transport, and one Aeroflot flight was organized."

The Ambassador also recalled that Russia had donated 120 testing sets for 12,000 studies to the Azerbaijani side: "We are ready to assist if necessary."

Earlier it was reported that Russia supplied test-systems for diagnosis of coronavirus to 10 countries, including Azerbaijan.
