Romanian FM: Azerbaijan plays key role in energy, connectivity

Romania's Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Țoiu has highlighted the strategic importance of South Caucasus countries, with particular emphasis on Azerbaijan's role in energy and regional connectivity, Report informs.

She was talking to journalists ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.

Țoiu noted that Bucharest has held consultations with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia, paying special attention to cooperation and sustainable development in the region.

"Regarding the South Caucasus, I have held talks with the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia. This is especially important in the context of Azerbaijan. The message I will convey to my colleagues today concerns the essential role Azerbaijan plays in energy infrastructure and connectivity," Țoiu said.

She also underlined Armenia's role in regional processes: "Relations with Armenia are a key factor in our engagement with the region."

The Romanian foreign minister added that the development of economic ties and infrastructure projects directly impacts the welfare of regional citizens and their interaction with the EU.

"The path to Europe, the road to the EU, is tied to the decisions we are making today-decisions that bring economic benefits felt directly by citizens,"Țoiu stressed.
