Report’s director: Amendment of Armenian constitution is Azerbaijan’s main prerequisite for peace

Pakistan, one of the important countries for Azerbaijan, provided political support to Azerbaijan during the 44-day Patriotic War, Director of the Report Information Agency Fuad Huseynaliyev told ARB TV.

Huseynaliyev said that the state visit of the Azerbaijani President to Pakistan and the reception of the country's leader at a high level indicate that official Islamabad attaches special importance to relations with Azerbaijan: “The people of Pakistan also support Azerbaijan. Our relations with Pakistan, which are already at a very high level, will further develop after the visit. Within the framework of the visit, certain steps will be taken for the development of economic relations.”

Huseynaliyev also spoke about defense ties: “Pakistan has a strong military and defense industry. Of course, relations in the field of defense industry will also be discussed.”

“Azerbaijan's cooperation with Pakistan is not against a third country, including India. India cannot see any threat from Azerbaijan. Nevertheless, India is developing cooperation with Armenia, and this cooperation is based on commerce. Most of the weapons sold by India to Armenia have not even been properly tested in India itself. In other words, Armenia is a testing ground for the weapons of this country,” he said.

The director of the Report Information Agency also spoke about the current situation in the South Caucasus: “There are issues that Baku cannot compromise in any way. One of them is territorial claims against Azerbaijan. According to the results of a survey by the Gallup analytical center, the majority of the Armenian people is against changing the constitution. There is even such an opinion that the Karabakh issue is not over yet and it is necessary to return to this issue in the future. So it means that in the future, if there is a change of power in Armenia, they can return to this topic again. Therefore, the abandonment of territorial claims following the constitutional change is a prerequisite for us.”

Huseynaliyev said that Armenia is hurrying for peace: “But for this, constitutional change is a prerequisite. Otherwise, peace will not last long. And we don't need short-term peace. In fact, we do not interfere in the internal affairs of Armenia. We just want the elimination of threats against us. In Armenia, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan understands that external powers can somehow change the government. That is why he is in a hurry for peace.”

Huseynaliyev pointed out that Azerbaijan takes into account the interests of regional states in its foreign policy:

“Therefore, no country of the region is dissatisfied with Azerbaijan's steps. But Armenia is integrating into the West. This worries Iran and Russia. Today, the main threat to Iran may come from Armenia. Russia also has serious means to take action against Armenia. Russia does not use them yet and thinks that statements sufice for now.”
