Western countries isolate Muslims and implement a policy of discrimination against them, said Ravan Hasanov, executive director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BIMC), Report informs.
He made the remark during his speech at the international conference themed “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku.
According to Hasanov, Islamophobia is a bitter reality of the modern world.
The director highlighted the challenges posed by the isolation of individuals due to their beliefs, a practice that is unfortunately observed in Western countries that otherwise profess liberal values. This discrimination, particularly against Muslims, stands in contrast to the possibility of peaceful coexistence. As a nation that considers itself part of the Islamic world and holds multicultural values dear, Azerbaijan’s concern is heightened.
Hasanov also stated that the conference hosted by Azerbaijan was not politically motivated but was a scientific and practical endeavor aimed at fostering more coordinated steps among participating nations.
He expressed optimism that the outcomes of the conference would bolster more effective collaboration in addressing these issues.
