Rafael Huseynov: Council of Europe should abstain from annoying countries by special pressures

Strasbourg. 9 October. REPORT.AZ/ “Mass attacks against our country have started lately with organization of the forces that want to put Azerbaijan under their political influence.”

France bureau of Report News Agency informs, said Rafael Huseynov, member of Azerbaijani delegation addressing the autumn session of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

“I would like to share some of my views on Azerbaijan’s being targeted in recent months. Azerbaijan became a member of the Council of Europe since 2001 and we did not come to this family considering it just influential international organization. From the beginning, Azerbaijan approached to Council of Europe as a road, school and also always trusted and relied on this organization. 16 years have already passed since Azerbaijan became a member of this organization. The Council of Europe has undeniable share for achievements and successes Azerbaijan gained during these years. More importantly, Council of Europe performed one of the important duty of protecting our independence. However, we have constantly heard here the sharpest criticism. As we have chosen a democratic path we will bear every test on this way. However, mass attacks against our country have started lately with organization of the forces that want to put Azerbaijan under their political influence. The nature of these attacks consist mostly of slander, defamation and denigration. Unfortunately, the influence of those forces have also reached the Council of Europe and this organization have joined the chorus. There is a team here, which works against Azerbaijan. Even people who demonstrate benevolent and friendly attitude towards Azerbaijan are careful to sound the positive realities about our country. Because some people may blame them for working in our favor”, lawmaker said.

R. Huseynov said the biased line pursued by the Council of Europe against separate countries is very damaging and creates the ground for serious crisis of organization. “Every work, every behavior and criticism can be useful, if it is not excessive and far from bias. I think the Bureau of the Council of Europe and its leadership as a whole should abstain from annoying the separate countries from this organization by double standard approaches towards the countries and applying special pressure mechanism. Because such initiatives may lead to the serious crisis of organization and its collapse in a short time.”
