Heydar Aliyev played a significant role in the construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM), Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Report informs.
“He [Heydar Aliyev] was one of the organizers of a grandiose project of importance for the entire Soviet Union,” he said.
Putin noted that Russia is still developing the BAM.
“All the efforts, labor and years of work that your father invested in the implementation of the project still play a significant role today,” Putin added, addressing Ilham Aliyev.
The Baikal–Amur Mainline is a 4,324 km-long broad-gauge railway line in Russia.
