A protest rally against French colonialism was held in Noumea, the capital of New Caledonia, Report informs.

10,000 people participated in the protest organized against French colonialism.

The participants of the protest rally, organized by the Kanak Socialist National Liberation Front, shouted slogans against the colonial policy of France and demanded independence.

The participants raised the flags of Azerbaijan, the UN, and New Caledonia.

They carried the state attribute of Azerbaijan in the front row and pinned it to the tribune. When the police asked the reason for waving the flag of another country, the protesters said that Azerbaijan is always with them and supports the fight against neo-colonialism.

Note that Baku hosted an international conference on “Decolonization: Women’s Empowerment and Development," organized by the Baku Initiative Group, on November 21.

Addressing the participants of the conference, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan supports the peoples who are fighting against colonialism to be free.

“Most of the bloody crimes in the colonial history of humanity have been committed by France. France, which occupied dozens of countries in Africa, South-East Asia, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean, and Latin America, plundered their wealth and enslaved their people for many years, committing numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity. The French armed forces discriminated against their ethnic and religious affiliation and subjected hundreds of thousands of civilians to genocide. The slave trade, which France was actively engaged in, is one of the most shameful pages of humanity. Millions of Africans fell victim to the French slavery policy,” Ilham Aliyev said in his address.

The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) was established on July 6, 2023, in Baku by participants in the Complete Elimination of Colonialism conference within the framework of the ministerial meeting of the Coordination Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement chaired by the Republic of Azerbaijan.

BIG supports the struggle for the freedom of peoples in various regions of the world still suffering from colonization in the 21st century.
