A protest action dedicated to "Decolonization Day" (UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples on December 14, 1960) was held at the Trocadero - Human Rights Square in front of the Eiffel Tower in the heart of Paris, France, Report informs.
It was organized by the Baku Initiative Group and brought together members of independence movements from French colonies.
Various slogans were chanted at the action, including "End colonialism, freedom," "Let's fight for freedom," "Together for a free future," "Decolonization starts now," "Let's rewrite history with our own words and our own struggle!" and "Give us back our lands and history!"
Representatives of independence movements from the Comoros Islands, Guadeloupe, French Polynesia, Reunion, New Caledonia, Saint Martin, Corsica, and Martinique participated in the action.
The protesters called for the implementation of Resolution 1514 adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 14, 1960, and urged the international community and organizations to respond adequately to the current situation in the colonies.
