Pakistani expert: West 'should not risk relations with Baku, a significant partner in the field of energy security'

Azerbaijan is a significant partner of the EU in the field of energy security, and therefore the West should not take a unilateral position and jeopardize its relationship with Baku, Pakistani expert, director of the Policy Research Center (PRC) Ahsan Hamid Durrani told Report commenting on the upcoming meeting in the Armenia-US-EU format in Brussels on April 5.

"This format lacks inclusiveness, since the position of the main actor in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan, will not be taken into account. Though it was Azerbaijan that initiated the start of the peace process with Armenia," he said.

Durrani noted that the European Union and the United States should become reliable mediators in the peaceful dialogue between Baku and Yerevan.

"They must act as responsible powers to help find a lasting solution to this conflict in the South Caucasus in accordance with international law," he concluded.
