PACE adopts resolution restricting withdrawal of member states from the organization

Member States of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) cannot suspend membership or temporally restrict their activities.

French bureau of Report informs that the due decision is part of the PACE resolution on “Strengthening the decision-making process of the Parliamentary Assembly concerning credentials and voting” adopted within the summer session on June 25.

The document was adopted on the basis of the report of Belgian MP, Petra De Sutter, with 118 people voting for it, 62 against and 10 abstained. The discussion of 220 amendments to the resolution continued until the daytime.

According to the document, PACE member-states cannot be removed from the organization on the basis of their reassessment. The resolution will lead to the elimination of sanctions against Russia and the return of the delegation.
