OSCE Secretary General concerned about recent clashes on Armenian-Azerbaijani border

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid as part of his participation in the UN General Assembly High-Level Week 2022, the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan told Report.

Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches importance to cooperation with the OSCE, and in this regard, it is crucial to implement a cooperation program between Azerbaijan and the OSCE in the current post-conflict period. At the same time, he noted a number of destructive activities of Armenia within the framework of the OSCE.

He gave detailed information to the Secretary General of the OSCE about the recent large-scale provocations carried out by Armenia in the region and the current situation, issues related to the implementation of tripartite declarations, and initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan in the direction of normalizing relations between the two countries. The minister drew attention to issues such as the delimitation of borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the clearance of landmines. Despite the recent military clashes and losses from Azerbaijani side, he emphasized that Azerbaijan is in favor of starting the peace treaty process without wasting time.

Helga Schmid expressed concern over the recent clashes and condolences for the losses. She said they are ready to support the normalization process, considering the long-term experience of the OSCE in the region.

The parties exchanged views on issues of Azerbaijan-OSCE cooperation, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
