The Milli Majlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan) Committee on Foreign and Inter-Parliamentary Relations strongly protests and condemns the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on March 15 on the European Union - Azerbaijan. Relation, Report informs, citing the press and public relations department of the Milli Majlis.
The Milli Majlis statement notes that the text of the resolution not only consists of misleading comments of the European Parliament towards Azerbaijan on human rights, fundamental freedoms and other issues, but, unfortunately, at the same time, it deliberately ignores Azerbaijan's efforts to achieve peace, provokes revanchist forces in Armenia and the South Caucasus in general, consists of lies and offensive rhetoric aimed at destabilizing the situation in the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan.
"The European Parliament not only failed to prevent the adoption of this resolution, which damaged its reputation, but also became an instrument of forces trying to realize their nefarious plans in the South Caucasus region through chaos and war. And this causes deep disappointment and anger."
The Milli Majlis noted that the resolution calls into question the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, which is a complete disrespect for both international law and the very charter of this structure.
"Most importantly, the adoption of the document in this form is undoubtedly a clear indication that it comes from Armenia and the Armenian diaspora, which have become a cancerous tumor of Europe. The unbearable stench of corruption, hatred for our country, its history and the pain caused by almost 30 years of occupation of 20% of its internationally recognized territories, ethnic cleansing, the Khojaly genocide, the fate of more than 1 million refugees and internally displaced persons, completely destroyed cities and villages, indifference to the destroyed historical, cultural and religious heritage is manifested in the resolution in all its nakedness. Armenian tales about the closure of the Lachin road and the 'humanitarian catastrophe,' repeated with great enthusiasm, show how irresponsible and biased the MEPs are."
However, the Milli Majlis Committee on Foreign and Inter-Parliamentary Relations considers it necessary to note the position expressed by the Commissioner of the European Union for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi during the discussion of the resolution. The European Commissioner has demonstrated a balanced approach to assessing the events in the region.
"Despite incredible pressure from biased MPs, he praised Azerbaijan's role as a reliable partner for the EU. The Milli Majlis Committee on International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations calls on the European parliamentarians to reconsider their decision, not to add fuel to the fire, not to fuel revanchist forces, and to conduct a constructive dialogue based on mutual respect and understanding," the committee said in the statement.
