Miguel Ángel Moratinos calls for action against all forms of hatred and discrimination

UN Special Envoy on Combating Islamophobia Miguel Ángel Moratinos has called for action against all forms of hatred and discrimination.

According to Report, he made the statement in a video address to the participants of the international academic conference titled "Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas
."

He said it was a great honor for him to speak for the first time in this role since being appointed as the UN Special Envoy on Combating Islamophobia, calling it an important responsibility within the framework of a new mandate that complements his work as the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.

Moratinos emphasized that religious intolerance can have devastating consequences.

He said fostering hatred toward one religious community and allowing disorder can lead to increased hostility toward other faiths, generate fear and distrust, and ultimately cause division within society.

Moratinos reaffirmed his commitment to solidarity with Muslim communities and to combating all forms of hatred and violence.

He also expressed his readiness to work together to fulfill his mandate and to promote the principles of mutual understanding and respect.
